“For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? (Mat 5:46).”
Daily Lent Reflection
Today’s readings emphasize the need to obey the Lord’s commands. The first reading is uncompromising about what is required. Moses reminds the people that their special status as God’s own people can only be achieved if the covenant is honored in the heart, as well as in the doing. In the gospel reading, Jesus reminds us that the honoring of the covenant is not about simply being right, but by being just and loving. It is easy to love those who are the ‘righteous’ but much more challenging to serve those who are more challenging.
Daily Lent Challenge
Today I will ask myself who the people are that I find most difficult to love? Why? What opportunities might there be today to reach out to someone I find difficult to love?
