“’But who do you say that I am?’, (Mat 16:15).”
Daily Lent Reflection
In today’s Gospel Jesus asks his disciples “who do people say I am?” and they report to him what they have heard others saying about him. But when he then asks the direct question “who do you say I am?”, they are apparently caught off guard and it is only Simon who speaks up, saying “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!”
In doing so, Simon makes a leap over an abyss, and evidences a “conversion.” To answer the first question, it was only necessary to look around, to have listened to people’s opinions. But to answer the second question, it was necessary to look inside, to listen to a completely different voice, a voice that was not of flesh and blood but of the Father in heaven.
Daily Lent Challenge
Today I ask myself who Jesus is to me personally and ask myself how that answer makes a difference in how I live each day.
