LPi Pressroom Pulls Together this Hurricane Season

December 5, 2024

When Hurricane Milton hit this past October, it was a big test of teamwork at LPi. With our employees, though, there was no doubt that we would pass it with flying colors.

The operations team started preparing as soon as they saw hurricane Milton heading toward Florida. They had been through a few of these storms in past years, so they kind of knew what to expect. However, this one had a much bigger impact. The team developed a plan to send jobs to Cleveland and contacted our local Florida couriers to deliver some publications early.

LPi proactively closed the Florida plant Wednesday and Thursday so employees could stay safe. We kept sales up to date on all activity that we were aware of with the churches in the area, and possible issues that many were facing with the storm. The plant lost power on Wednesday evening, and we didn’t get all power back until Sunday afternoon. We’re thankful that all our employees were safe and had minimal damage to their homes.

That eventful week, we only ended up with eight churches that did not submit a bulletin, and only six deliveries were missed due to our inability to get through the floods and power outages. Fantastic results when you understand the devastation the storm left in its path!

A huge thank you to the Cleveland press team for printing all those additional publications for Florida, and the prepress teams for helping to move those jobs to Cleveland so we could get them printed. Also, thanks to Jeanne Krien, Ken Hause, and Louie Elahi who met every day to work on the successful plan. One last shout out to Rob Kennedy for offering to deliver bulletins that week. Although we were unable to take advantage of his generous offer, it's still a wonderful example of how everyone works together at LPi. What a great example of POSITIVE TEAM SPIRIT!
